Dr. Christopher Ganz is a thought leader on industrial innovation, digitalization, and servitization, with more than 30 years of experience along the innovation value chain.

To bring together market requirements and future technologies to enable innovative solutions is Christopher’s key motivation when developing innovation strategies.

Innovation

ABB Future Labs’ mission was to find new solutions for future customer needs. Christopher and his team have evaluated market and technology trends and thus challenged the Future Labs research team to develop visionary solutions.

Digitalization

As a member of the core team that developed the ABB digital strategy, he was covering the strategic marketing aspects. Bridging the corporate technology and digital functions of ABB he explored the potential of digital technologies such as IoT, AI and digital twin. To drive these technologies also externally, the steering committee of the Industrial Internet Consortium provided the optimal platform.

Service

As the Group VP for Service R&D, Christopher was driving the use of technology and R&D as part of the ABB service strategy. He advised the R&D teams throughout ABB in creating product / service systems that combine the advantages of physical products with those of physical and digital services.

Research

To support the group’s strategic technology activities, Christopher defined and coordinated various research programs for remote service, Internet of Things, and control and optimization. He guided researchers around the world to empower ABB’s business units with cutting-edge technologies.

Product development

After his doctoral degree from ETH Zurich Christopher joined ABB’s power generation business, where was heading the product management team for the power generation automation unit.

Teaching

Throughout his career, Christopher has not only managed and guided teams, but has also used his experience to teach graduate and undergraduate students at ETH. In addition to his education at ETH he acquired further business and strategic education through the ‘Mastering the Technology Enterprise’ at IMD in Lausanne, and through the ABB Senior Leadership Development Program at the same institute.

His academic and professional credentials have made him a senior level speaker on innovation and digital technology topics worldwide.
